6 People You Should Know in Downtown Brockville - Part 2

Welcome back!  We're continuing to look at some of our most influential thought leaders and entrepreneurs who are responsible for the amazing Brockville restaurants, shopping, and cultural experiences that make our downtown so great.

Here are three more of the great people we have to thank for Brockville's downtown revitalization.

Meeting the Movers and Shakers of Downtown Brockville - Part 2

4. Peter from The Brockville Arts Centre

The historic Brockville Arts Centre is the heart of our local live performance scene, as well as showing plenty of great films.  It's a classic venue that both locals and tourists alike love to experience.

  • What is the best part about having a business in Downtown Brockville?

The downtown is the heritage core and heartbeat of Brockville. The awesome historic buildings never cease to impress me.

  • How do you and your business contribute to the community?

For over 150 years the Brockville Arts Centre has been the arts and cultural hub of our community and a huge economic engine for our downtown.

  • What new or innovative project are you working on at your business?

My dream is to have a revolving restaurant and nightclub on top of the BAC flytower with a glass elevator. The view from the top of the BAC flytower is breathtaking. An IMAX theatre in our rear parking lot is also on our bucket list. (Think BIG!)

5. Brandy, from The Brockville Public Library

Our local library is a true treasure, originally founded more than 150 years ago.  It's gone through a lot of changes over the years, including a period of being a Carnegie Library, but it's always been one of the most important parts of the city.

  • What is the best part about working in Downtown Brockville?

Going for walks on my lunch break! I love to pick up a perfect bite to eat from one of the cafes or Brockville restaurants (Tait’s, Boboli, Fudgery, Maphins) and then taking in the amazing scenery by the river at Hardy Park or Blockhouse Island. It’s always amazing and gorgeous even in the winter!

  • How do you and your organization contribute to the community?

The Library provides space, support, and services. We are a free place for people to just be. We try to help promote a healthy strong community through providing support for local people, arts, culture and community service organizations, and grassroots groups in pursuing their goals. For example, we are partners with Every Kid in Our Community and we run a drop-in group for LGBTQ youth and their allies. We also provide essential services like printing, faxing, and scanning, research help, computer training, meeting space, free Wi-Fi, and public computers… the list goes on.

Oh yeah, and we have books!

6. Meg, The Executive Director of the DBIA

Of course, we can't forget about Meg, our Executive Director at the Downtown Brockville Improvement Association.   Meg understands the ins and outs of making the Downtown alive and vibrant. She has been at the helm of the DBIA for over two years, and during this time has seen vacancies decrease, increased attendance at Downtown events, and helped in beautifying the heart of the city even more!

If you are going to be starting a business in downtown Brockville, Meg is the person to call on for all the help and advice you need!

There you have it.  Six of the people who've helped ensure we have such great Downtown Brockville restaurants, events, arts, shopping, and more.  So, the next time you see Ida, Anne, Helen, Peter, Brandy, or Meg - give them a big thank you!
