Digital Transformation Grant

Digital Main Street (DMS) is a program focused on assisting small businesses with their adoption of technologies. The Digital Transformation Grant (DTG) program will provide funding for training, advisory support, and grants to brick-and-mortar small businesses looking increase their capacity through digital transformation.

Digital Main Street is an innovative program funded by the federal and provincial governments that is designed to help small businesses improve their existing online presence or create an online presence.

The program is built around an online training platform and free consultation services of a Digital Service Squad (DSS) member and Digital Transformation Grants of $2,500 for eligible businesses that pay commercial property taxes.

 

Applications will continue to be accepted until:

November 30, 2021 (or until grant funds are exhausted).

Grant Requirements

◽ Do you have a permanent 'brick-and-mortar' establishment in Ontario?

◽  Employing 1-50 employees

◽ Paying commercial property tax  (Directly or through commercial rent)

◽ Is a registered business in Ontario and/or is incorporated

◽ Is open for business/operating at the time of application (not a start up)

◽ Is open to the general public for walk-in and onsite purchases of goods and services

◽ Owner is an Ontario Resident

◽ Owner is 18 years of age or older at the time of application.

◽ Owner is a  Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Ineligible Business Criteria

Is NOT a franchise

Is NOT a not-for-profit/charitable organization

Is NOT renting office space on a temporary basis (month-to-month)

Is NOT in a shared workspace such as a hot desk or dedicated desk

Is NOT a purely online business

Has not received a Digital Transformation Grant previously

 

Eligible costs:

Digital Marketing

Hiring a consultant/agency/person to execute Digital Marketing initiatives

Website Redesign, Improvement of existing website

Development of new website

Software

Digital Training

Ongoing Digital Training courses (in-person & online)

 

Graphic design software

Productivity Software (LastPass, Hootsuite, Dropbox, etc.)

Social Media Software (Hootsuite, Buffer, etc.) Security Software

Other software as evidenced in the Digital Transformation Plan

Hardware (maximum $1,000)

Must be hardware deemed necessary (as determined by OBIAA)

Few digital marketing resources can be one size fits all.  For recommendations that are tailored to you and your business our DSS member will be happy to chat with you and complete a digital assessment to determine where you may wish to concentrate your efforts on improving your online presence to generate increased business. Our DSS member can provide assistance and support with the following:

  • Email marketing
  • Content development
  • Digital assessments
  • Finding free digital marketing tools

Digital Transformation Grants

 A DSS member is able to assist a business to determine if they are eligible and apply for a Digital Transformation Grant (DTG) of $2,500.  The DTG is available for eligible “brick and mortar” businesses that pay commercial property taxes and may be used for:

  • Developing a website
  • Purchasing graphic design and accounting software
  • Digital Training
  • Digital accessibility compliance (AODA)
  • Updating your Point of Sale system
  • Photography services
