Ben Heffernan Live at the Spitfire!

In both his songwriting and in his performing, the London, Ontario-based award-winning solo artist Ben Heffernan displays a maturity well beyond his 18 years of age. Over the past four years, Heffernan has worked hard to hone his performance skills, playing over 150 shows around Canada, sharing the stage with artists such as Justin Nozuka and Donovan Woods, and spending countless hours songwriting.

After winning the Folk Music Ontario Taylor Mitchell Bursary, a Jack Richardson London Music Award, and being recognized by Hawksley Workman (Juno-winning singer-songwriter) on the back of his first EP, Heffernan’s second EP “Home” was recorded in two days in November 2017 at the Sugar Shack in London, Ontario with producer Simon Larochette. After playing over 100 shows solo, he decided to move towards a full band sound and live show, which is reflected on the new EP. This EP goes further into Heffernan’s interest in electric guitars and artists such as U2 and James Bay, while still retaining some of the acoustic influences which were prominent throughout the first EP. He followed up the EP release with a Toronto release show at the Burdock Music Hall and a London release show at The Rec Room, before a string of festival dates throughout the summer, including a show at Winnipeg Folk Festival. Home was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in September 2018. Heffernan then contributed a cover of Tom Petty's Angel Dream to the “Canada Covers Tom Petty” Spotify playlist, which featured artists such as Matt Mays, Terra Lightfoot, and Royal Wood. Angel Dream received high praise, with Spill Magazine calling it "incredible".

With more music being released alongside a cross-Canada tour planned for 2019, the future appears to be bright for Ben Heffernan, as he looks to cement himself as a exciting emerging artist in the Canadian music scene.
