About the BIA
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a defined commercial district where local businesses and property owners work together to strengthen and promote their area.
Downtown Brockville BIA represents the businesses and commercial properties located within our downtown boundary, which extends from Clarissa St. to Park St. west to east, and from James St. to the St. Lawrence River north to south. Within this area, we focus on enhancing the vibrancy, visibility, and overall experience of downtown through marketing, events, beautification initiatives, and business advocacy.
What is a BIA?
Businesses & commercial property owners within our boundary contribute to a shared levy that funds projects and initiatives designed to benefit the area as a whole. Those funds are reinvested directly into downtown through:
Marketing and promotion
Community events and activations
Beautification
Business support and advocacy
Economic development initiatives
The BIA is governed by a volunteer Board of Management made up of local business owners & managers, along with a City Council representative. Together, we work to support our members and ensure Downtown Brockville continues to thrive.
How Does a BIA Work?
A strong downtown benefits everyone. When local businesses succeed, our community becomes more vibrant, welcoming, and economically resilient. The BIA helps create opportunities for connection, supports local entrepreneurship, and promotes Downtown Brockville as a destination for residents and visitors alike.
When we invest in downtown, we invest in local jobs, historic buildings, small business growth, and the sense of pride that comes from having a thriving downtown. A successful downtown strengthens the entire city, creating a place where people want to shop, dine, gather, and build community.
